In 2012 the opportunity to test Dublin House became a reality when a Dublin City Council owned site on Fishamble Street became earmarked for development.
The two teams were once again called upon to reimagine the co-op development in this location. Over several months the design, model and brochure came together to be presented in August 2012.
Dublin House 2.0: Fishamble Street was launched on the 21st July 2014 with an open call for interested groups to make submissions to Dublin City Council.
In the Spring of 2010 the design teams were approached by the competition organiser, Ali Grehan [Dublin City Architect] and asked to combine the winning schemes and prepare a refined document to promote the idea of Dublin House.
Initially envisaged to be an architectural document by and for fellow designers and planners, the direction shifted in language to become accessible to ordinary people who might become involved in a future scheme.
Formally launched for the Pivot Dublin exhibition: ReThink + ReAct on March 2nd 2012.
In the Autumn of 2009, the UCD summer school 'now what?' ran a one day competition in Smithfield to explore the concept of reintroducing Dublin's Georgian urban grain back onto inner city sites which have been subject to failed social housing projects, failed projects of overleveraged developers and neglected brownfield sites.
The west side of Lower Dominick Street, Dublin 1 was selected, currently the site of a Dublin City Council social housing flat complex built in 1970.
Judged by Ali Grehan [DCC], Ciaran MacNamara [DCC], Ryan Kennihan & Denis Byrne. Moniker & GKMP architects won the competition jointly.
